STONEMILL

Appalachian bluestone is primarily used for exterior applications such as the exterior steps, porch, stoop, fireplace mantles, pool coping, pavement stone, stone benches and tables, exterior facades and a variety of land escaping applications. Can also be used for interior applications. The bluestone is quarried in the Northeastern USA and processed at local quarries into a verity of shapes, surface textures, thicknesses (from 1/2" to 24" thick!) and dimensions (up to 12 fee. It's consistent deep bluish grey color, high density and strength and lack of cracks and fractures are the results of 300-400 million years of natural process under the weight of appalachian mountains, long before the Appalachian coal deposits were formed. The natural roughness of the surface makes it ideal for exterior use. It was used to cover the sidewalks and walkways in NY, NJ, PA, DC, MA and other early American cities before concrete took its place. It's still an icon of luxury living and is used in the construction of almost every single luxury home in the northeast region. New York bluestone is the most famous of them all, mainly quarried in the NY state Southern Tier region and surrounding regions in Pennsylvania and New Jersey and the reason is lack of fractures and the very low concentration of ferrous (iron) minerals that ads brownish color. There is simply no better choice of stone for exterior house applications than the bluestone. Not only looks great and is durable, it's very low maintenance.
